St. James ECW
The Episcopal Church Women is an organization which consists of every woman who is a member of St. James. The ECW Board, historically, has been made up of representatives of various Guilds and as these groups
disbanded, the board took on their responsibilities. Today we are a group of 6-12 members whose purpose, according to the ECW constitution, is “To administer and coordinate certain parish activities in the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ.” While it is the responsibility of the Board to do this, it is only with the help of the rest of the Episcopal Church Women of St. James that such activities can be carried out. As we have expanded our efforts, we have relied more and more on the help of the “Men of St. James”.
This past year alone, we have donated to various organizations such as Habitat, Stephen’s Table, Mercy Flight, Domestic Violence Progam (YWCA),
Genesee County Churches United and Crossroad. We continued to support Episcopal Divinity School, Harvard, Episcopal Relief and Development,Episcopal Community Services and Bishop Masereka Christian Foundation.
Within our own parish, we have raised monies for scholarships, kitchen improvements and supplies, and to assist a young cancer patient. We collect monies for the United Thank Offering as well. We hosted a women’s mini-retreat, several funeral receptions, as well as various
other gatherings and we are offering an Inspirational Book Study beginning Jan.12th. Again, we can only do this work with the help of every member of St. James, female and male!
Our biggest means of raising monies are the ongoing Thrift Shop, and the seasonal Lenten Fish Fries……please make an effort to help in any way you can.
Remember we are doing these activities in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
